There has to be acknowledgement AND acceptance of the problem.
.
Some people don’t like to admit they have a problem with alcohol.
.
It’s a tough realisation to swallow.
.
What will people think and say?
.
How am I going to manage without alcohol?
.
Am I going to lose all my friends and the ability to go out and socialise?
.
There is also always that desire to get drinking under control…
.
“It doesn’t happen all the time”.
.
“Only sometimes does it spiral out of control”.
.
“I can drink normally most of the time”.
.
Those statements may be true.
.
The reality, is that it will progressively become worse…
.
Binges will turn from days into weeks.
.
Days off work will become more and more frequent.
.
Apologising to friends and family will need to happen more often…
.
Until the “I’m sorry” loses its value.
.
Mental health will slowly but surely decline.
.
Until one day…
.
𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲.
.
Only then can change become a reality.
.
Until that point…
.
It will just be a constant cycle of trying and failing to moderate drinking…
.
While your life falls apart in the process.
.
Once you 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺…
.
It gets a lot easier…
.
𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗿.
.
Only when ignorance changes into awareness AND acceptance, does a solution appear.
.
Because the beliefs you hold in your head fill your field of vision…
.
For better or for worse.
.
If you know you have an issue with alcohol…
.
Maybe it’s time to accept…
.
Accept that there is a problem…
.
And allow that solution into your awareness.
.
Because it will appear.
.
If you’re at that stage…
.
Make 2022 your year of change…
.
And 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗰𝗵.
